Huntingdon-Bedford-Fulton Area Agency on Aging and Center for Community Action have collaborated to bring Elder Cottage Housing Opportunity (ECHO) to Huntingdon, Bedford and Fulton Counties to assist older adults in being able to live safely and independently, near caregivers, in their community.
Through a grant awarded to the Pennsylvania Department of Aging (PDA) and Pennsylvania Association for Area Agency’s on Aging (P4A) through the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) this project is being brought to Huntingdon, Bedford and Fulton Counties. The Area Agency on Aging and Center for Community Action have been given the opportunity to introduce the ECHO model to these areas.
ECHO units are small, separate, manufactured residences that are temporarily placed on the property of an older adults friend or family member, maintaining independence for the older adult while the property owner is still able to provide care to ensure the safety of the older adult is maintained.
Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria: host property located must be within Huntingdon, Bedford or Fulton Counties; older adult income at or below 80% area median income; older adult must be able to live independently but require occasional care giver assistance; older adult must be agreeable to paying affordable rent.
Applications are currently being accepted and nterested parties can access the application and Frequently Asked Questions on The Huntingdon-Bedford-Fulton Area Agency on Aging Website at www.hbfaaa.org or by visiting your local Area Agency on Aging or Center for Community Action offices.
